FLEA & TICK CONTROL
We understand that fertilization and weed control are only part of a healthy turf program. We will also assess your lawn for a variety of dangerous pests like fleas and ticks that will potentially damage your turf and harm your family.
What Are Fleas?
Fleas are insects that have been with us for a very, very long time. They are brownish-black, wingless, and 1/12 to 1/6-inch long. They feed on the blood of any warm-blooded body, including dogs, cats, and humans. Their bites are identified by the itchy red welts they leave. Some people have allergic reactions to flea bites and may develop rashes. As wingless parasitic insects, fleas move around and find their hosts by hopping. Look for fleas in shady areas of your property with tall grass.
What Are Ticks?
These parasitic pests come in a variety of species, shapes, and sizes. They can be found on tall grass blades, where they wait for a warm-blooded host to pass by for them to latch onto. Once they find their hosts, ticks burrow their heads into their host’s skin as they begin to feed on their blood. Officials say it’s important to take precautions and perform tick checks after being outdoors even as the weather cools. Bacteria causing Lyme Disease are spread by black-legged ticks, which are common around the Greater Cincinnati area.
Our Flea & Tick Control Services
We can assess your lawn for fleas & ticks that can harm your family and pets. We provide 3 applications each year of insecticide to control surface insects and ensure the removal of these pests safely and efficiently. Treatments are provided at the height of the season while they are active in order to eradicate the highest population. The entire property will receive a perimeter application while concentrating on more prone areas such as wood lines. Once fleas and ticks find their way onto your pet or your body or into your home, you’ve got a problem. We will also help you minimize the flea and tick population in your lawn by advising you on the following…
- Remove leaf litter
- Clear tall grasses and brush around homes and at the edge of lawns
- Place a 3-ft wide barrier of wood chips or gravel between lawns and wooded areas to restrict tick migration into recreational areas
- Mow the lawn frequently
- Stack wood neatly and in a dry area (discourages rodents)
- Keep playground equipment, decks, and patios away from yard edges and trees.
- Discourage unwelcome animals (such as deer, raccoons, and stray dogs) from entering your yard by constructing fences.
- Remove old furniture, mattresses, or trash from the yard that may give fleas & ticks a place to hide.
- Apply nematodes to your lawn to control the pest population.
